Gallery Feature: Nancy Medsker Pastels

Gallery Feature / March-April 2025

Nancy Medsker, a Renaissance individual of sorts, shared her pastel paintings with us during the early Spring months of 2025. Rich color, textural and layered are a few words that could be used to describe her paintings.

Her interest in artistic endeavors began in college as she became hooked on stained glass and opened the studio called “The Glass Station” upon graduation. Over the course of a decade, Nancy created stained glass windows and mirrors for commission and galleries. A growing family sidelined stained glass, but other interests were fostered from a faming store owner to a green cleaning business, from renovating old houses to operating a B & B, and odds-n-ends in between.

As someone who like to keep “busy”, Nancy discovered the beauty and moodiness of soft pastels in 2020 and has enjoyed creating landscapes, tree-scapes, and floral images, learning new techniques along the way. The show in the Gallery included a myriad of paintings that have captured the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes and the flora found within.

As Nancy puts it, “Pastels are beautiful and forgiving to use. The colors are immediate, and it is fun playing around with different palettes and techniques. Most of my painting inspiration is from the beauty that surrounds my home in Upstate NY and from my many travels.”

If you missed the show at Anthony Road, view her artwork online. She loves giving her paintings a new home and donates most of her proceeds to the World Central Kitchen! In January 2025 Nancy was accepted as an Associate member of the Pastel Society of America.
